Surgical site Infection in Planned Abdominal surgery

Abstract

Surgical site infection are one of the most important causes of health care associated infections and have serious consequences for outcome. The surgical site infection are associated with high morbidity and mortality rate. There are several reason for surgical site infection which have been validated and documented as risk factor. A risk factor is recognized contribution to increase in post-operative surgical site infection.

To analyse the risk factors of surgical site infection in planned abdominal surgery.

To find out most common microorganism responsible for surgical site infection in planned abdominal surgery. To identify antibiotic susceptibility of surgical site infection.

Data were collected from the department of surgery at SSG hospital in the period of November 2014 to November 2015 was collected.

The bio data of the patient in the form of Name, Age/Sex, Address, was noted. Furthermore the date of admission, date of operation, date of discharge and Registration number were noted.

Total 226 Patients of CDC class I & II were underwent surgery.18 Patients head surgical site infection.3 Patients underwent conservative management while resuturing perform in 15 patients.

Surgical site infection is a serious sequele of impaired wound healing. Obesity and Diabetes are most common pre disposing factor then other factors like anaemia, smoking and malnutrition. Most common organisms E.coli, Klebseila and Staphylococos with antibiotic sensitivity to piperacilin, tazobactum and meropenum.
