Abstract

Duodenitis is diagnosed histopathologically by thickening and deformity of villi, increased cellularity of the laminapropria, migration of inflammatory cells through lamina propria and erosion of surface epithelium. These changes can be seen in peptic ulcer also. The present study is conducted to evaluate histopathologically confirmed Duodenitis not associated with peptic ulcer in the pathogenesis of upper abdominal pain

Total 55 patients were selected attended Outpatient department of General Surgery, SUT Medical College, Kerala. The study was conducted for 2 years in the period of (Jan 2014–16). 55 patients selected based on the study protocol and informed consent was obtained from the selected patients. Males and females were included in the study. All the patients’ demographic, clinical symptoms and histopathological observations were recorded. The data was expressed in number and percentage

50 were males and 5 were females. Maximum patients had age between 36–40 years. Maximum number of patients had frequent with moderate pain. Most of the patients had frequent with moderate pain. High number of patients had Grade-II histopathology and endoscopic grading. In the study 11 patients had Grade-I with frequent, moderate pain

In conclusion maximum number of patients showed different grades of abdominal pain. Duodenitis not associated with peptic ulcer is an important cause for upper abdominal pain. More studies are required to get better histological diagnosis of Duodenitis in abdominal pain without peptic ulcer.
