Abstract

In the present study the structural behaviour of the buildings with shear walls at different locations has been investigated and compared in terms of storey drift and average displacement. For this purpose two Reinforced Concrete framed regular buildings with different locations of shear walls situated in seismic zone V have been investigated. Ten-storeyed and Fifteen-storeyed buildings were taken with four different locations of shearwalls i.e. at central frame, external frame, internal frame and combined external and internal frames. These buildings were analyzed using commercially available software STAAD PRO by Seismic Coefficient Method and the seismic response of the building was compared in terms of storey drift and average displacement. It has been observed that with the incorporation of shear walls storey drift and average displacement decrease considerably. It was noticed that for the buildings investigated in the present study, the shear walls located at internal frames are most effective in reducing the storey drift and average displacements.
