Abstract

Response of soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) to varying depths (shallow, medium deep, deep) of vertisols and three sowing windows (9th, 19th and 29th May) was studied during Kharif season of 2003 and 2004 at Shirol in Kolhapur District, Maharashtra. Medium deep soils produced significantly higher yields than deep and shallow soils by producing more number of pod and seeds m”2 while delayed sowing reduced the number of seeds m2, biomass and yield ha ‘. Sowing in medium deep soils at 9th May gave higher yields.
