Economics of Different Levels of Nitrogen Application in Maize Based Intercropping Systems with Legumes under Rainfed Conditions

An experiment was conducted in rainy season 2002, to study the response of maize to intercropping of legumes with cowpea, soybean and redgram at different levels of nitrogen (0, 40, 80, 120 kg ha⁻¹) for total grain yield and monetary gain under rainfed conditions in Alfisols soils of Andhra Pradesh. The results showed that though maize responded up to 120 kg N ha⁻¹, maximum yield of soybean and redgram were recorded up to application of 40 and 80 Kg N ha⁻¹, respectively. Maize intercropped with soybean and redgram could fetch better economic returns in rainfed Alfisols of Andhrapradesh.
