Abstract

A numerical study has been carried out to investigate disturbances of blood flow through a stenotic coronary artery for the restrictions of 10% to 90% with the Reynolds numbers ranging from 25 to 375. Wall pressure, flow characteristics, wall shear stress, and it's physiological aspects have been studied in detail. From this study, it is revealed that the post stenotic zone is the prone area to the propagation of the disease. Atherosclerotic plaque formation tends to start from very low flow Reynolds number of 25 with 50% restriction. For Reynolds numbers of 100 and above, it starts at 30% stenosed condition. Impact of percent stenosis on wall shear stress has been noted to be more effective than Reynolds number.
