A particle–fluid suspension flow induced by the traveling wave motion of the confining walls in a two-dimensional geometry under long wave approximation has been investigated. The wavelength, λ of the peristaltic wave is assumed to be large compared to the half channel width, d. A systematic approach based on an asymptotic expansion in terms of small parameter d/λ has been used and closed form solutions up to O (d2/λ2) have been obtained. The limiting cases of the solutions including the effects of externally imposed pressure gradient and criteria for backward flow have been established.
