Abstract

In the development of new large megawatt size horizontal wind turbines,air pressure loads on various points of blade surfacesis important for optimizing the energy yield from wind turbines. The effects of active aerodynamic load on the surface points of the blade for horizontal axis wind turbines were investigated. The performance studieshave been carried out with conventional three bladed curved rotors. The interplay between different strategies is discussed in the paper. The procedure for multi body aerodynamic characterization is illustrated with a real blade calculation and aerodynamics design is addressed.
