Over last decade medical imaging domain has gained extensive growth. Modern three-dimensional (3D) medical imaging paves way and morally supports the major advances in science and medicine. With the help of modern 3D medical imaging, high-resolution images are created. A medical expert seeks the aid of information technology to identify the disease and to decide which technique to use to cure the disease.
Medical image mining is one of the intelligent technique deals with the extraction of implicit knowledge, medical image data relationship, or other patterns not explicitly stored in the medical images. It is aimed to discover the pathologic and diagnostic knowledge embedded in large-scale medical image archives by exploiting the joint-disciplinary medical image mining, which incorporates data mining techniques into medical image analysis and may serve as the basis for intelligent computer-aided diagnosis. In this paper, we will examine the medical image mining techniques, overall architecture of the medical image mining system, medical image mining application and will also discuss research issues in medical images and medical image analysis.
