Examining the Impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Speeches on the Indian Stock Markets – A Text Analytics Approach

This paper examines the effect of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speeches on the stock markets. A total of 63 selected speeches have been analysed starting from May 2014 up to July 2017. The speeches have been classified based on the type of effect that they would have on the markets as in positive, negative or no effect. The text of all the three categories of speeches has been analysed using text mining and analytics, and the differences in the speeches (words) have been identified. This study aims at adopting text mining as a method to predict market movements.
