Insecticidal activity of Trichilia connaroides (W. and A.) bentilezen (Fam. Meliaceae) against some common vegetable pests
Abstract
Different solvent extracts of Trichilia connaroides were evaluated for possessing insecticidal properties against Henosepilachua vigintioctopunctata, Plutella xylostella, Amsacta albistriga and Spodoptera litura in the laboratory. Cent per cent mortality was recorded in 4.00% concentration of benzene and acetone extract against third instar of H. vigintioctopunctata. However, they were on par with methanol, ethyl acetate and hexane extracts. Methanol, ethyl acetate and benzene extracts gave the best result with 81.33, 74.67 and 70.00% av. per cent mortality of three different concentrations respectively. The adult mortality was comparable among the different extracts except water extract. Mortality of 72% was recorded in 4.00% cone. of ethyl acetate and methanol extracts. The fourth instar larval of P. xylostella larva was highly susceptible to benzene, methanol and acetone extracts with mean mortality of 69, 60 and 52.80%, respectively. At higher doses, hexane and benzene extracts were found effective against A. albistriga larvae.
