Four insecticides including new molecule UPI-206, imidacloprid, thiamethoxam and clothianidin were evaluated in the field against rice white backed planthopper (WBPH), Sogatella furcifera Horvath during kharif, 2007 and summer, 2008 with rice c.v. “Lalat". The population of WBPH remained significantly low in all the insecticidal treatments as compared to control at 5, 10, and 15 day after spraying (DAS). Significantly lowest WBPH population was recorded in UPI- 206 @ 150 g a.i./ha with a reduction of 90.43 and 90.81 % over control at 15 days after spraying during kharif, 2007 and summer, 2008, respectively. Clothianidin and UPI 206 @ 50 g a.i./ha were the next best treatments followed by imidacloprid and thiamethoxam. The population of natural enemies showed no significant differences among insecticidal treatments and control at 1 day before spraying and at 0, 7, and 10 DAS during both the seasons.
