Abstract

Thirty-four and thirty-nine lines of rice received from the Directorate of Rice Research, Hyderabad in 2006 and 2007, respectively were evaluated against major insect pests of rice. Dead heart caused by stem borers ranged from 0.99–5.55 and 0–12.24 per cent, while leaf folder damage varied from 3.20–16.47 and 3.47–20.30 per cent during Kharif 2006 and 2007, respectively. The respective damage score of whitcbacked planthopper (WBPH) was found to be 3.15 to 8.70 and 3.26–8.84. Two years evaluation indicated that lines RP 4516-3-8 and RP 4621–1845 showed moderate resistance to WBPH and low infestation by leaf folder and stem borers.
