Abstract

Field trials were conducted for three years during 2005–07 at the Entomological Research Farm of College of Agriculture, CAU, Imphal to evaluate the incidence of rice gall midge among the common rice varieties and to evaluate the efficacy of newer insecticides in the agroclimatic condition of Manipur. Incidence of gall midge was high in the varieties viz., phouoibi, KD-5-2-8, sanaphou, RCM-9, RCM-10 and tamphaphou crossing 5% silver shoot at 60 and 75 days after transplanting, however, these could give higher yield than the other varieties. Among the insecticides evaluated, nuvacron (monocrotophos @ 500g a.i./ha.) was most effective, followed by curacron (profenophos @ 500g a.i./ha) and roket (profenophos + cypermethrin @ 440g a.i./ha). The contact insecticides including the botanicals were less effective.
