Abstract

Field screening of rice germplasm was carried out at experimental farm of Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, during kharif 2002 (12 lines) and 2003 (13 lines) under natural infestation of leaf folder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenee). Two lines viz., RYT 2663, VL 97–3652 were identified as resistant. Correlation between silica, potassium and leaf folder infestation was negative but not significant. Silica deposition pattern in intercostal region of leaf epidermis appeared to be important as compared to silica content of leaves in relation to leaf folder resistance.
