Floral dearth influenced the spectra of larval amino acids of honey bee Apis mellifera. Despite sugar (sucrose) syrup feeding, the essential amino acids were lowest (2) in 5th instar larvae. Feeding of mahua (Bassia latifolia Roxb.) flower's syrup during lean period increased the amino acids concentration. Larval essential amino acids detected in the mahua syrup treatment include leucine, isoleucine and valine. Methionine was not detected in any sugar treatment, but found in 4th and 5th instars when fed with mahua syrup and tryptophan in 2nd instar Free amino acids of mahua flower, honey and propolis have also been analysed.
