The fruit borer damage varied in various okra germplasms from 5.6 – 50.6% and 6.6 – 51.9% in 2007 and 2008, respectively.The effect of morphological and biochemical characters of the fruits on the damage caused by shoot and fruit borer, Earias vittella (F.) was investigated at laboratory of Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi during kharif of 2007 and 2008. The parameters such as fruit length, seed, fruit hairs and diameter were non significant with infestation. However, the infestation had positive significant relationship with biochemical characters namely nitrogen, protein, chlorophyll ‘a’, chlorophyll ‘b’ and total chlorophyll content. The ascorbic acid and carbohydrate were positively non significant whereas phenol and potassium had negative significant effect.
