Abstract

Field study was conducted under All India Network Research Project on Onion and Garlic, College of Horticulture (OUAT), Sambalpur, Odisha, during rabi 2010–11 and 2011–12 to validate the effective ecofriendly IPM modules for management of thrips (Thrips tabaci Linderman) in onion. The treatment consisted of M1: IPM module, M2: Farmers’ Practices and M3: Control, laid out in RBD. The result indicated that both M1 and M2 not only significantly reduced the thrips population (21.94 and 20.39 thrips plant−1) but also increased total marketable yield (17.14 and 17.63 tha−1), respectively. Higher BC Ratio was recorded in M1 (2.61) than M2 (2.38). It may be concluded that adoption of IPM module not only reduces thrips infestations but also produces better yield with higher BC ratio in onion.
