A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the bioefficacy of a new anthranilic diamide insecticide, cyantraniliprole (Cyazypyr®) (HGW 86) 10% OD for its efficacy against the invasive serpentine leafminer, Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess) (Diptera: Agromyzidae) infesting gherkin, Cucumis sativus L. crop and its safety to the coccinellid predators. Superiority of cyantraniliprole @ 90 and 105 g a.i./ha was significantly observed with lowest number of adults/20 leaves (0.34–0.97 in 2009–10 & 0.31–0.74 in 2010–11) at 7 days after spraying (DAS) registering 82.16 - 93.16% reduction. At 7 DAS, significantly lowest number of live mines/20 leaves (0.88–1.74 in 2009–10 and 0.68–1.61 in 2010–11) was observed in cyantraniliprole @ 90 and 105 g a.i./ha with 86.03–93.59% reduction. The population of predatory lady beetle, Coccinella septumpunctata L. did not vary at zero hour, 3 and 7 days after application in all the treatments indicating safety. Significantly highest fruit yield was recorded in cyantraniliprole (@ 90 and 105 g a.i./ha) during both 2009–10 (4.94–5.08 t/ha) and 2010–11 (5.02–5.14 t/ha) registering 99.19–104.84 and 93.08–97.69% increase in fruit yield over untreated control, respectively.
