Abstract

Field experiments were conducted at the experimental farm of Regional Research and Technology Transfer Station, Bhawanipatna, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology during kharif 2011–12, 2012–13 and 2013–14 to assess the performance of IPM module against major insect pests of rice (var. Swarna) in comparison to the recommended insecticidal control schedule (Non-IPM module). Results revealed that the location specific IPM module comprising of various components viz., seed treatment with carbendazim 50% WDP@ 1.5grams/kg of seed, application of fipronil 0.3G @ 0.5kg/10 cent in the nursery bed before 5 days of uprooting of seedling, release of Trichogramma japonicum @1.0 lakhs/ha at 30 days after transplanting (DAT), 40DAT and 50DAT, setting up pheromone traps @ 5 nos/ha for yellow stem borer, installation of bird perches @ 25 nos/ha, foliar spraying of neemazol @1ml/lt at 60DAT and 70DAT and foliar spraying of buprofezin 25SC @ 1.5ml/lt at 85DAT at ETL afford excellent control of major insect pests of rice viz., yellow stem borer, gall midge, leaf folder, case worm, green leaf hopper and brown plant hopper with higher grain yield and monetary benefit. IPM plots also recorded significantly higher numbers of predatory population of spiders and lady bird beetles.
