Against Spodoptera litura (F.) the plant extracts when evaluated neem seed extract 5% recorded minimum egg hatching followed by subza (Ocimum basilicum) leaf extract and these were significantly superior over marigold (Tagetes erecta) leaf extract, orange (Citrus reticulata) peel extract and ginger (Zingiber officinale) rhizome extract @ 5% each. However, none of these alone could surpass the effects of trizophos 40 EC. There was an increase in the ovicidal activity when these extracts were mixed with trizophos 40 EC compared with their individual effects. All the plant extracts and their combinations with trizophos 40 EC were effective in reduced egg hatching but not effective compared to trizophos. The post hatching observations indicated that the moribund larvae were more with leaf extracts.
Spodoptera litura, neem, Ocimum, orange peel, ginger, marigold, egg hatching, moribund larvae
