A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of certain newer insecticides against brinjal shoot and fruit borer Leucinodes orbonalis Guen. at Manipur. The results revealed that of the nine treatments, the performance based on shoot infestation was: coragen > imidacloprid > profenofos + cypermethrin > dichlorvos > fipronil > alphamethrin > acephate > thiomethoxam. All the insecticides were significantly superior over untreated control. In terms of fruit infestation, coragen (7.27%) was highly effective followed by imidacloprid (7.96%) and profenofos + cypermethrin (8.84%). The maximum yield of 13.83 t/ha was obtained with coragen (30 g a.i./ha) while the minimum was from alphamethrin (15 g a.i./ha). However, cost benefit ratio was highest in coragen (1: 26.27) followed by imidacloprid (1: 17.78), dichlorvos (1: 16.26) and thiomethoxam (1: 13.60).
