Abstract

Association between yield traits and six isozymes in silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) breeds was estimated. All the biochemical parameters studied except amylase had significant positive correlation with yield traits, and amylase had significant negative correlation. Single cocoon weight was found to have a correlation coefficient of 0.603 with alkaline phosphatase, 0.668 with aspartate aminotransferase, 0.702 with esterase, 0.626 with peroxidase 0.660 with succinate dehydrogenase and-0.689 with amylase. Single shell weight recorded a correlation coefficient of 0.673 with alkaline phosphatase, 0.606 with aspartate aminotransferase, 0.811 with esterase, 0.634 with peroxidase and-0.636 with amylase. Cocoon yield by number was having a correlation coefficient of 0.663 with alkaline phosphatase, 0.681 with aspartate aminotransferase, 0.583 with esterase, 0.633 with peroxidase. Cocoon yield by weight had a correlation coefficient of 0.803 with alkaline phosphatase, 0.884 with aspartate aminotransferase, 0.834 with esterase, 0.818 with peroxidase, 0.701 with succinate dehydrogenase and-0.799 with amylase. Hence, these enzymes can be utilized in Marker Assisted Selection Programmes for the improvement of silkworm, however, more investigations are required.
