Rodent problem in rainfed rice in north chota nagpur region of jharkhand

Rodents are a serious problem contaminating stored food, transmitting disease, and damaging field crops. This study involved survey in the rice fallow area of Chota Nagpur eastern plateau and hills region district of Hazaribag, wherein rodents are a serious problem in both field and stores. Estimation of rodents was made from observations on the burrows in the field during harvesting of crops, during 2015-16 and 201617. The midland rice fields, where farmers preferred the hybrid rice was covered. The results revealed 22.85 burrows/ha and grain recovered from burrow was 12.93 kg/burrow. Farmers estimated the loss potential/colony/year by rats as 2.94 kg/ha. The maximum burrows were found on the bund (62.92%) followed by middle area of field (26.99/ha), and the least in other areas of field (9.91%).
