Abstract

White grubs are common dweller of soils and are considered as most destructive soil pests of many crops in India. Members of family Scarabaeidae are pests adults’ feeds on plant tissues/foliage while grubs feed on roots. In India there are 40 species reported to be inflicting serious damage on many crops. Certain species such as Holotrichia consanguinea Blanchard and H. serrata F. are of major economic importance attacking groundnut, vegetables, pulses, oilseeds, cereals, millets, tobacco, sugarcane and sorghum. Many pest managements options have been devised to bring the population below economic threshold level. By adopting integrated approach combing viable options such biocontrol, physical, mechanical and chemical, this pest can be brought under control.
