Population Dynamics of Fruit Fly Bactrocera Cucurbitae (Coquillett) of Cucurbits

Abstract

This study is on the population dynamics of fruit fly Bactrocera Cucurbitae (Coq.). Significant variation in its incidence was observed during 2016–2018. It was not present during 48th to 52nd standard meteorological week (SMW) in 2017 and 49th, 52nd and 1st to 3rd SMW in 2018. There were peaks during 33rd (2016), 33rd and 36th (2017) and 8th SMW (2018). The incidence was less during 42nd to 12th SMW and was moderate to high during other SMWs with few exceptions. Significant positive correlation was observed with maximum (r = 0.63) and minimum temperature (r = 0.82), and rainfall (r = 0.69). The maximum temperature led to 39.4% variation and it was 67.1% with minimum temperature and 47.3% with rainfall.
