Among the insects that attack pigeonpea pod fly Melanagromyza obtusa (Malloch) is the most important. This study evaluates some new systemic insecticides against this. These include: acetamiprid 20SP @ 0.2 g/ l, thiamethoxam 25WG @ 0.2 g/ l, thiodicarb 75WP @ 1g/ l, thiacloprid 21.7SC @ 1 ml/ l, and imidacloprid 17.8SL @ 0.3 ml/ l in field trials conducted at the National Pulses Research Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Vamban, Pudukottai district. Imidacloprid was the best among these followed by acetamiprid in reducing seed damage. Maximum yield was obtained with these treatments. The mean B:C ratio was maximum (1.51) with imidacloprid treatment followed by acetamiprid (1.37) and thiamethoxam (1.33).
