Cold Storage Manipulation of Trichogramma Chilonis Ishii For Extending Storage Life

Abstract

Storage of Trichostrips at 4°C for 15 days and then shifting to 8°C and 12°C for 10 and 20 days was evaluated to study the possibility of extending storage period. The results indicated that Trichostrips stored at 4°C for 15 days and then shifting to 8°C for 10 days was better in terms of maximum adult emergence (71.25% compared to 68.57% when shifted to 12°C for 10 days). Storage at 4°C for 15 days and then shifting to 12°C for 10 days was found significantly superior giving maximum parasitism (68.18%) compared to when shifted to 8°C for 10 days (58.18%). Storing at 4°C for 15 days and then at 8°C and 12°C for 20 days revealed that shifting to 12°C for 20 days provides maximum parasitism of 44.22%, while those at 4°C for 15 days and then shifting to 8°C for 20 days provide 35.53% parasitism. Thus, for extending storage life of Trichostrips up to 25 days without affecting its performance adversely, these can be stored at 4°C for 15 days and then shifted to 12°C for 10 days.
