A field trial was conducted to assess the biochemical basis of resistance in soybean genotypes against defoliators viz., during kharif 2015-16. Twenty genotypes were evaluated and the results revealed that genotypes viz., AMS 9933, AMS 115, AMS MS 5-18, RVS 2001-18, MACS 1370, SL 979, AMS 104 and JS 2029 proved to be effective against the defoliators with least leaf damage. The correlation studies revealed that protein content estimated at 25 and 40 DAS exhibits a positive and significant correlation with leaf damage (r= 0.764, 0.723, respectively); and a positive significant correlation was observed with reducing and non-reducing sugar (r = 0.751, 0.848; 0.832, 0.840, respectively).
