Abstract

In view of the insecticidal properties of Mentha piperita (peppermint) and Verbascum thapsus (jungle tambakoo) these were evaluated for their efficacy against pulse beetle Callosobruchus chinensis (L.) infesting horse gram. Extracts of leaves, roots and inflorescence were prepared with acetone and methanol and these evaluated by considering adult mortality, oviposition and emergence of F1 progeny. The results revealed significant effects on oviposition and emergence of adults, with extracts from leaves providing the best protection. It was observed that 20% extract of M. piperita resulted in 100% inhibition of adult emergence.
