An exploratory survey was undertaken across eight strategically selected districts of Karnataka with the objective of identifying, documenting, and preserving Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITK) and Farmer Innovative Practices (FIP) in beekeeping. A total of 31 unique practices were recorded, comprising 14 ITKs and 17 FIPs. These were systematically categorized into key thematic areas: pest management (6 ITKs, 4 FIPs), disease management (3 ITKs, 2 FIPs), sustainable honey harvesting (2 ITKs, 8 FIPs), and meliponiculture (3 ITKs, 3 FIPs). The comprehensive documentation of these practices offers valuable insights into low-cost, locally adapted solutions rooted in farmers experiential knowledge. The findings serve as a foundation for validation, refinement, and potential integration of these practices into mainstream apicultural systems. This initiative not only highlights the relevance of grassroot innovations but also promotes the sustainable advancement of beekeeping by leveraging local resources and indigenous expertise.
