Susceptibility of Brinjal Shoot and Fruit Borer Leucinodes Orbonalis Guenee to Insecticides

Abstract

Leucinodes orbonalis Guen., brinjal shoot and fruit borer is a serious pest of brinjal in India. First instar larvae (3 days old) of hisar population of L. orbonalis were tested for their susceptibility to two frequently used novel insecticides i.e. chlorantraniliprole and emamectin benzoate by fruit dip bioassay technique under laboratory conditions (27O temp. and 65% RH). The LC50 value of chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC and emamectin benzoate 5% SG was calculated to be 1.55 and 0.32 ppm, after 24 hr of exposer respectively. Emamectin benzoate was found to be more toxic (4.84 times) than chlorantraniliprole against first instars larvae of L. orbonalis.
