Abstract

This study evaluated chilli hybrids for resistance to invasive thrips Thrips parvispinus (Karny) infesting chilli at College of Agriculture, Vishweshwaraiah Canal Farm, Mandya, Karnataka, during rabi and summer 2023–24. During rabi 2023–24, thirty-two chilli hybrids with susceptible check (Byadagi Kaddi) were screened against chilli black thrips, on the basis of aggregate mean population and % leaf curl index values three hybrids viz., Iravata (5.33%), Meenakshi (6.00%) and Swapna (9.33%) proved resistant, two hybrids were found moderately resistant viz., Dolphin (18.00 %), Kalavathi (18.67%), nine hybrids were found moderately susceptible, fifteen hybrids found susceptible and three hybrids were found highly susceptible. Similarly, during summer 2024, three hybrids viz., Iravata (6.00%), Meenakshi (6.67%) and Swapna (9.67%) proved resistant, two hybrids viz., Kalavathi (15.67 %) were found moderately resistant, ten hybrids were found moderately susceptible, thirteen hybrids found susceptible and four hybrids were found highly susceptible. These may be further utilized as donor parents in developing the cultivars resistant to T. parvispinus.
