Screening of Some Local Cucumber Cultivars for Resistance to Red Pumpkin Beetle and Whitefly

Abstract

The red pumpkin beetle Raphidopalpa foveicollis (RPB) appeared on all cucumber cultivars starting from 15 DAS and continued until 75 DAS; no cultivar was completely free with incidence ranging from 0.12 to 2.16 beetle three leaves; cultivar ALAMGIR CT 180 had the least incidence (0.12 beetle three leaves), followed by SW 224 and Cucumber Green (2.16 beetle three leaves). Regarding whitefly Bemisia tabaci, the lowest count was observed in Alamgir CT 180 (0.46 whiteflies/ 3 leaves), followed by SW 224 (0.72), Kheera Prasad 100 (1.13), Uttam (2.22), Summer Express (3.18), Rehmat 1080 (3.84), Cucumber Barsati (3.97), Special 40 (4.45), and Cucumber Green (5.48) with maximum being with Raja (6.02). No cucumber cultivar was completely free from these and Alamgir CT 180 and SW 224 were identified as the most promising cultivars against both pests.
