Malaria remains a significant public health challenge in Odisha, India, despite substantial progress over the past two decades. Contributing 51% of India’s confirmed malaria cases in 2020, Odisha’s malaria burden disproportionately affects tribal and rural communities residing in hard-to-reach areas. Key interventions, such as the DAMaN initiative, insecticide-treated nets (ITNs), indoor residual spraying (IRS), and innovative diagnostic tools, have successfully reduced malaria incidence. However, persistent challenges, including drug resistance, climate change, and geographic barriers, necessitate adaptive, community-driven strategies and the integration of technological advancements such as genomic surveillance and digital tracking tools. Sustainable malaria elimination requires a balanced approach, incorporating both high-tech and community-centred solutions, to achieve the state’s goal of becoming malaria-free by 2030.
