Structural analysis of shade nets for construction of low-cost shade net houses in a semi-arid climate of Trichy district, Tamil Nadu, India

Abstract

The dead, live and wind load have been determined as per IS code 875 Part 1, IS code 875 Part 2, IS code 875 Part 3, IS code 875 Part 5 and IS code 14462-1997 for whole structure. Then load on individual member of structure were determined for Trichy condition. Based on loads on the structure and stress analysis, the individual members were tested for its strength and factor of safety. Critical sections with minimum factor of safety were identified. The determination of dead load, live load, wind load, other actions and load combinations are estimated by manual procedure. Analyzed forces on each member and column of shade net house. Determined the nature and magnitude of forces and designed tension and compression members accordingly. Total dead load acting on shade net house was observed 4.326 KN. Similarly, total live load acting on shade net truss was observed 48.00 KN. Wind load has been estimated using IS: 875 Part 3. As per IS code basic wind velocity is 47 m/s, Wind load acting on shade net members have been estimated for whole structure and individual member of shade net truss. The design wind speed was found to be 42.3 m/s and the design wind pressure was found to be 1.0735 KN/m2. The aim of thisstudy in order to design the shade nets structure to satisfy sufficient margins of safety and to avoid severe damage against various loads.
