Abstract

The investigation was undertaken to determine the effect of different varieties and spacing on growth and yield traits in garlic. Four different varieties Yamuna safed-1, Yamuna safed-2, Yamuna safed-3 and Yamuna safed-4 with three spacing viz. 10 x 10 cm, 15 x 10 cm and 20 x 10 cm were evaluated. The spacing (15 x 10 cm) produced higher plant height (48.74 cm), number of leaves (10.30), length of leaves (41.70 cm) of plant. The cloves length (2.52 cm), diameter (1.54 cm) and neck thickness (0.35 cm) showed same trend in widest spacing (15 x 10 cm). The weight of individual cloves of garlic (37.08 g) increased with the wider spacing (10 x10 cm). Yield was the highest (50-70 q ha-1) at closer spacing (10 x 10 cm) and lowest was (40-50 q ha-1) at wider spacing.
