Effect of storage media and time on germination, vegetative growth and survival in Mango (mangifera indica L.)

Abstract

The seeds were stored in four different storage media (ash, cocopeat, saw dust and gunny cloth) at four different storage time (20, 40, 60 and 80-days) to study the germination and growth. The stones stored in gunny cloth with 20-days storage time recorded significantly higher percentage of seed germination, plant height, stem girth, number of leaves, leaf area, vigour index, fresh weight, dry weight, root length and survival percentage, followed by ash. The stones stored in gunny cloth with 20-daysstorage time, followed by ash found best for vegetative growth of the seedling. However, stones stored in moist ash with 80-days storage time also had acceptable viability with some decrease in vigour of seedlings.
