Abstract

In Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs), packet losses occur more frequently due to mobility. For real-time traffic, to mitigate the effects of data loss, effective loss recovery techniques are required. In this paper, we propose a multipath loss recovery technique using redundant network coding. It helps in recovering packets which are lost during transmission. Initially, multiple paths are discovered using ant colony optimization. Then, we apply the redundant network coding scheme based on the number of packets received and link failure of a node. The redundant network coding avoids the retransmission of lost packets and improves error-correcting capabilities of lost packets. Based only on the knowledge of the loss rates on the output links, the source node and intermediate nodes can make decisions for redundant network coding. By simulation results, we show that the proposed technique improves the packet delivery ratio with reduced overhead and delay.
