Abstract

In Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning Networks, QoS Provisioning fix boundaries on achievable throughput, for any application. A particular QoS reserves the minimum and maximum bounds on the channel bandwidth utilization. In fixed bit rate (FBR) applications, the reserved bandwidth will be utilized completely. Whereas in variable bit rate (VBR) applications, there arises uncertainty for the nodes to predict the amount of incoming data. So, the nodes may reserve more bandwidth than their maximum demand, which may not be fully utilized all the time. In this paper, a novel UDAY-QIPS (Unused bandwidth Dynamic Acquisition Yet QoS-Invariant Preference-based Scheduling) Algorithm was proposed to dynamically utilize this unused pre-reserved bandwidth, for non-real time applications, without changing the existing bandwidth reservation. Thus, the system throughput can be improved while maintaining the same QoS guaranteed services, and the existing tradeoff between QoS provisioning and efficient bandwidth utilization is compromised. The percentage of achieved throughput depends on the instantaneous traffic in the network.
