In most of the places, the garbage bins are not cleaned at proper time intervals which results in overflowing ofgarbage resultingin hygiene problems, land pollution; also it creates ugliness to that place. This shows theneed forasystemthatmonitors thestatus ofthegarbage bin and provides information to the concerned authorities to manage the collection intervals for cleaning the bins. A smart bin is built on a microcontroller based platform Arduino which is interfaced with GSM modem and the required sensor units. Arduino will be programmed in such awaythatoncethegarbagereaches thethresholdlevelthe sensor unit will trigger the GSM modem which will continuously alert the requiredauthority. Once thesesmart bins are implemented on a large scale, by replacing our traditional bins present today, waste can be managed efficiently as it avoids un necessary lumping of wastes on roadside. Foul smell from these rotten wastes that remain untreated for a long time, due to negligence of authorities and carelessness of public may lead to long termproblems.
