Abstract

Mechanical support systems (MCS) are one of the major technological advances of this century. Many of the patients with end stage heart disease can look forward to acceptable palliation with improvement in the quantity and quality of life, improved psychosocial status, and reduced levels of anxiety; stress and depression. With rapid strides in bioengineering, modifications, totally implantable and biocompatible MCS systems will be used for long term biological replacement of the failing heart.
