Abstract

Hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass has always been the standard of care in cardiac surgery. However for last 15–20 years certain groups have been advocating the use of normothermia during CPB to improve myocardial protection. Hypothermia also reduces tissue perfusion by increasing blood viscosity and activation of autonomic reflexes to produce vascoconstriction. Innovative selective cerebral perfusion and dual tempertaure management are newer techniques.
