Abstract

Techniques of intraoperativemyocardial protection are constantly evolving since the first report of elective cardiac arrest by Dr. Melrose in 1955. Worldwide the most common type of cardioplegia solutions used are hyperkalemic depolarizing solutions. These offer sufficient electromechanical arrest, but postoperative ventricular dysfunction is still observed. In our center St. Thomas cardioplegia solution is used, which served as a crystalloid solution and is delivered as 4: 1 with oxygenated patients ’blood. In past few months, we are using Del Nido cardioplegia solution in our selected patients like double valve replacement cases and some others. It is used as single-dose, cold blood Del Nido cardioplegia via antegrade route either root or ostial. This article aims to provide our early experience of Del Nido cardioplegia use in our center which will be surely helpful to those peoples who are still in thinking process of its use.
