Abstract

Volatile anesthetics agents’ spillage on the outside of a polycarbonate material results in breakage of that material, with nearly fatal outcome. Most of the components of the cardiopulmonary bypass materials like membrane oxygenator, venous reservoir, arterial filter and connectors are manufactured from polycarbonate material. We tested the effect of three different volatile anesthetics (Sevoflurane, Halothane and Isoflurane) on the polycarbonate parts of CPB materials. Which resulted in damage of the polycarbonate part.
