Ill effects of green revolution on the agricultural development in Punjab

The paper examines the negative impact of green revolution on the agricultural development in the state of Punjab by utilizing secondary data sources. The results of the study showed that unmanaged cropping pattern, paddy-wheat monoculture, over-exploitation of natural resources, increasing debt burden of the state farmers’, water depletion, water logging, higher use of pesticides and fertilizers, unavailability of financial facilities, increasing land degradation have led to the severe socio-economic crisis in the state of Punjab. On the basis of the findings the study suggested that special efforts are required to promote agricultural diversification in the state of Punjab. Skill development and research and development in the agricultural activities must be promoted in the state.
