Farmer suicide is a black mark on the Indian agrarian economy. In the present study it has been revealed that the farmer suicide is showing a decreasing trend over the years. This could be attributed to the factors such as government schemes, proper irrigation facilities, high yielding varieties of crops etc. Also among the various states, Maharashtra has shown the highest number of farmer suicide. This is mainly because of failure of cotton crop in the state. Many government initiatives to remove the problem of farm suicides has also been discussed briefly in the paper.
