The study was undertaken to evaluate the change in socio-economic status of people in selected five villages before and after the construction of check dam. The primary data collected from 200 sample households indicate a strong support to the benefits perceived from construction of check dam. The significant impact of availability of check dam water could be easily seen on livelihood of beneficiary households through positive changes in land and livestock holdings, increase in crop yield and level of income, reduction in migration patter, etc. Though there are some negative effects which can be easily offset by the benefits of check dam.
