Cost of Production and Profitability in Cultivation of Pointed Gourd in South Gujarat

This study on production and profitability in the cultivation of pointed gourd in South Gujarat is based on data collected through multistage random sampling technique from 144 pointed gourd producers in Navsari and Surat districts during 2015–16. The operating cost (cost A) was 242159. The average of Cost B₁ and Cost B₂ were found to 244350 and 251795, respectively. Cost C₁ and Cost C₂ were found to 304472 and 311917, respectively. The total cost (Cost C₃)was worked out to 343108 per hectare. In total cost, line share (≍71 percent) is consumed by Cost A. The cost of cultivation per hectare and cost of production per quintal was 343108 and 1949, respectively. Average per hectare gross income and net income were 518130 and 175022, respectively. The return per rupee of investment on Cost A¹ and Cost C³ is worked out to 2.14 and 1.51 respectively.
