Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is the central government response to the constitutionally manifested right to work and means to promote livelihood security in India's rural areas. MGNREGA is the flagship rural employment generation programme in rural areas for 100 days in a financial year. While providing employment, priority shall be given to women in such a way that at least one-third of the beneficiaries shall be women who have registered and requested for work under the scheme. The present study is being undertaken to determine the level of participation of the women beneficiaries in various activities of MGNREGA. It was conducted on selected four villages in Chaka Block of Allahabad district i.e. Hathigan, Purwa khas, Tilakhwar and Tenduaon in the year 2013–2014. There were twenty Blocks in Allahabad district from which Chaka Block was selected purposively as presence of the maximum number of MGNREGAbeneficiaries in this area. Sample was selected purposely where 15 beneficiaries from each village were selected. Thus, total study sample comprised of 60. The interview schedule was prepared in English and translated in Hindi to the respondents which were used to secure information systematic from the respondents. Frequency and percentages were used to assess the data for interpretation. A three point rating scale (3, 2 and 1) ascribed to fully participation (FP), partially participation (PP) and no participation (NO) was used for the level of participation in various activities in MGNREGA. Interview schedule and data was coded and analyzed through the frequency, percentage. Regarding the level of participation in various activities, the majority of the beneficiaries i.e. 80 per cent had fully participated in various activities such as creation of new ponds, stone gravel or brick gravel spreading for road construction, work like canal maintenance and mud work (digging and carrying) etc.
